Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina Signs Five-Year Agreement with Benefitfocus.com, Inc. for Web-Based Enrollment Technology

Mount Pleasant, S.C. and Chapel Hill, N.C. - March 25, 2002 - Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (BCBSNC), the state's largest health insurer, has signed a five-year license and services agreement with Benefitfocus.com, Inc., to provide online enrollment to BCBSNC members.

Under the terms of the agreement, BCBSNC will offer its customers online enrollment and access to benefits information through Benefitfocus' Web-based benefits enrollment technology.

The Benefitfocus Web-based enrollment application is a robust and scalable Internet platform that allows health plan members to make their benefit selections online. Members can use a computer connected to the Internet or a Benefitfocus touch-screen kiosk. The application will be hosted by BCBSNC in its data center.

Under the terms of the agreement, Benefitfocus will provide its core Web-based benefits enrollment application directly to BCBSNC. In addition, Benefitfocus will assist in the deployment of the application at the BCBSNC data center. Following the deployment, Benefitfocus will provide ongoing support and service to BCBSNC, its clients, and its members.
