BlueCross BlueShield Unveils New Enrollment Service for Large Employers
Columbia, S.C - Aug. 1, 2002 - BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina announces BluesEnroll One, a new open enrollment one-time service provided to employers with 50 or more employees.
BluesEnroll One, developed in partnership between BlueCross and Benefitfocus.com, Inc., integrates secure Internet and touch screen, kiosk-based, employee self-service with benefit coordinator support for a one-time cost to remove the paperwork from the annual benefits open enrollment process. Working with employers' existing human resource information systems, it reconciles employers' payroll data with BlueCross membership data, immediately identifying any discrepancies between the two systems.
The service is available only to self-funded accounts. BlueCross estimates that several hundred companies in South Carolina will benefit from using BluesEnroll One.
In 1996 congress passed HIPAA legislation in an effort to protect the security and confidentiality of health information transmitted electronically as well as to allow individuals to qualify for insurance coverage when changing jobs.
Instead of filling out several paper forms to enroll in health and ancillary benefits, including 401(k) programs, BluesEnroll One allows employees to self-enroll with one paperless process for all of their benefits. The employee uses a secure Web site accessed through home or office computers or through kiosk-based touch screen computers located in work sites to select and enroll for benefits. Automation of the open enrollment process reduces errors, lowers administrative costs, improves benefit communications and eliminates paperwork.
"Employees will appreciate the ease of use of our BluesEnroll One technology, and streamlining the process with BluesEnroll One will be of great value to human resource departments. We're happy to offer this to companies in South Carolina," said BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina Senior Vice President Don Nystrom.
"BlueCross has won many awards for its initiatives in customer self-service technology, and groups in South Carolina will benefit from this technology. We're pleased that our software application and easy to use, touch screen kiosk technology have helped make this possible," said Benefitfocus.com President and CEO Shawn Jenkins.
