Shawn A. Jenkins Recognized for Advancing Knowledge-based Industries

Charleston, SC– May 8, 2007 – Less than ten years ago, Charleston-based Benefitfocus was simply a vision being shared by a few men around a table. Last night, only seven years after co-founding the company, Shawn Jenkins was awarded one of two ThinkTEC Awards given annually. Each year two people – one from the private sector and one from the public sector - are selected for their leadership in advancing a knowledge-based economy in the Charleston region.

Jenkins shares this distinction with this year’s public sector winner: James Ward, Executive Director of SPAWAR Systems Center, and last year’s winners: Bobby Pearce, partner of Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, and Speaker of the House, Bobby Harrell. ThinkTEC was created in an ongoing effort to accelerate the technological growth and sustain a perpetual innovation economy for the Charleston tri-county region and state.
