Help Your Customers Find the Right Plan
HMO, PPO, HDHP… which one makes sense for your customers? Some plans have lower deductibles but may cost more in the long run. Employees need a way to compare plans based on numerous factors.
The BENEFITFOCUS® Plan Shopping Application can be purchased by health plans who want to help employees choose the right plan. Our tools allow employees to compare plans based on detailed coverage, healthcare usage and cost information. They are designed to show them the true out-of-pocket costs for each benefit plan.
In addition, the tool helps employees understand complex concepts – like deductibles, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximums – and quickly shows them how these concepts affect their annual benefit costs.
Shop and Compare Plans
Employees see plan costs in a user-friendly, side-by-side comparison. Each plan shows an estimated annual cost.
Employees can view and print a detailed calculation report, showing how the tool calculates the total out-of-pocket cost for each plan. In addition, they can display and print a total projected cost report for their preferred plan.
Personalize Your Plan Usage
The Benefitfocus Plan Shopping App displays carriers’ typical utilization information for each family member. The tool shows a total projected out-of-pocket cost for each selected plan type based on projected usage. Employees can adjust the preset values to personalize their own usage compared to carrier averages.
This gives employees a better understanding of their healthcare usage out-of-pocket costs for each plan.

Choose Your Implementation
Health plans who are already using the BENEFITFOCUS® Platform provide the Plan Shopping App to employers as part of the online enrollment experience, but it is also available as a standalone tool. Health plans may want to make the tool available on their company’s website or set up employer-specific plan shopping sites.
