Last week the popular Fox Entertainment show American Idol had fans from all over the country voting on who should be "the next American Idol." According to anEmployee Benefit News article,an audition process similar to American Idol where the judges filter out the contenders from the pretenders, could be used for HR professionals during the recruiting and hiring process.

In contrast to a typical interview, an audition could involve requesting the applicant to provide a writing sample or put together a sample presentation. Auditioning job candidates allows applicants to demonstrate their talents and the employer to identify who is best fit for the job. Most applicants want to prove themselves prior to being offered employment. Allowing job candidates to audition for a new position sparks interest and competition.
