Perceived value of benefits on the rise

Posted on

A 2011 Mercer Workplace Survey found that employer-sponsored healthcare coverage continues to be a critical component of the overall benefits offering. Employees said they strongly consider benefits when choosing where to work and feel appreciated by their company largely depending on the benefits they receive.

Even as healthcare costs continue to rise, employees appear ready to accept changes to the employer-employee cost-sharing model. Almost half of the employees surveyed reported that they were asked to pay more out of pocket for health benefits in the past 12 months, but said their health benefits are "definitely worth" the cost. Seventy-five percent of employees stated that they would rather pay more for healthcare coverage verses having their benefits reduced.

Employers can take this opportunity to position their benefits programs as a differentiator and a retention tool. Do your employees understand all of the benefits your company offers?
