Balancing work and holiday schedules
Posted on
Establishing a holiday work schedule that balances the wishes of employees with the demands of the business can be challenging.
In 2012, most U.S. employers plan to observe New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, according to a poll conducted by SHRM. In addition to the six most popular holidays, some employers plan to close for a few additional days such as Presidents' Day and Veterans' Day. Companies can determine their holiday schedule by reviewing holiday polls, referencing state department of labor websites and most importantly by surveying employees.
One of the most effective ways to manage employee expectations is to publish a schedule of holidays and dates for which the company will shut down, close early or offer special incentives for those who are required to work.
Has your company published its 2012 holiday schedule yet?
