Denver, Colorado - April 23, 2002 - BlueCross BlueShield Association's National Marketing and Communications Conference - Shawn Jenkins, President and CEO of Benefitfocus.com, Inc. the leading producer of employee benefits software for use via the Internet and easy-to-use touch-screen kiosks presented today 'Best of the Blues' at a National Blue Cross and Blue Shield Marketing and Communication Conference in Denver Colorado.
Jenkins teamed up with Mike Griggs, Vice President of Major Group Marketing, BlueCross BlueShield South Carolina to present the story of success that has been achieved by BluesEnroll to Blue plans from throughout the United States. Powered by Benefitfocus, BluesEnroll is the privately labeled software application that the highly successful insurance carrier BlueCross chose to offer their client groups as the answer to Electronic Enrollment. In addition to replacing the traditional paper process during the annual enrollment period, BluesEnroll is also available 24/7 as a valuable tool for the communication of benefits throughout the year.
The result of the successful partnership between Benefitfocus and BlueCross is a win-win product for employers, members and BCBS Plans," states Griggs. "With close to 300 large groups with an average of 310 members per group using BluesEnroll we are seeing huge improvements in many areas such as communication and data accuracy. We have a huge vision for BluesEnroll and foresee using it to deliver additional benefits directly to members. " |
According to recent studies by the United States Chamber of Commerce, employers spend an average of 42%, on top of payroll, for employee benefits. In addition, Human Resource (HR) personnel spend 80% of their time answering questions, handling errors, correcting errors, enrolling employees in programs and performing routine plan maintenance. Electronic enrollment technology is improving the bottom line by reducing errors and the time HR administrators spend answering routine questions by providing employees with direct access to benefits information. In the case of BlueCross, there has been a reduction of paper applications that must be keyed in manually from 20,000 forms per month to approximately 8,000 forms per month.
More and more, individuals are turning to the Internet for information. For employees who do not yet have Internet access at home or at work, free standing kiosks at the worksite provide the way for all employees, regardless of education level or comfort level using new technology, to utilize web-based services.
"We saw all indicators pointing to the time being right for electronic enrollment and employee self-service for benefits information when we began Benefitfocus," comments Jenkins. "We see many reasons for the success of BluesEnroll including the rapidly growing use of the Internet and the fact that the standardization features of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) require it. " Jenkins continued "Being selected by the Association to present our product at this conference with Mike Griggs is a real honor for me. We are proud to be working with the Blues and providing them with market leading technology."
