Benefitfocus Goes Vertical
Mount Pleasant, SC – April 17, 2006 – In celebration of the rapid progress of the Benefitfocus building construction on Daniel Island, Benefitfocus Executives Shawn Jenkins and Mason Holland invited the entire 250-person staff of Benefitfocus to an impromptu cookout at the construction site at five o’clock on Monday, April 17, 2006. The project contractor, Choate Construction, chipped in and cooked burgers and hot dogs for everyone.
Monday was a great milestone for the $20 million project as the first of the tilt walls was erected vertically on the slab. Benefitfocus Chairman Mason Holland stated, "It still amazes me that one week from today, all of the exterior walls for the building will be in place. With the aid of a crane, which was delivered to the site on 11 flat bed trucks, an ambitious construction crew will erect 780 liner feet of two story walls in seven days."
The Benefitfocus building and the multi-tenant Daniel Island Executive Center buildings totaling 145,000 square feet of class A office space are being built simultaneously on the 14-acre Daniel Island site and building completion is on schedule for October 1, 2006 occupancy.
"I am so impressed by the commitment Choate Construction and its team of subcontractors have made in fast tracking this project," Holland said. "They understand our business need to move Benefitfocus into our new home as soon as possible, as we have simply outgrown our existing space."
Benefitfocus has grown from 148 associates in the beginning of 2005 to its current staffing of 250 associates. The company plans to continue its rapid expansion and hiring of a technology workforce. Over 300 Benefitfocus employees and invited guests attended the impromptu cookout.
