Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Partners with Benefitfocus to Provide Healthcare Enrollment Technology to More Than One Million Members

CHARLESTON, S.C. – May 11, 2010 – Benefitfocus® announced today a multi-year partnership with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (BCBSLA) to deliver enterprise-level data exchange technology available through the Benefitfocus Platform™. BCBSLA will use the Platform to automate, standardize and simplify data exchange between its customers, affiliated partners and business systems.

The Benefitfocus Platform is a flexible and dynamic technology designed to meet the broad continuum of healthcare benefits needs of insurance carriers and large employers. Delivered via a Software as a Service model, the Platform will allow BCBSLA to transition away from legacy electronic data interchange (EDI) processes and eliminate the need for paper enrollment. The Platform will also ensure that data exchange between BCBSLA and its employer customers is accurate, secure and consolidated into a uniform file format, providing more efficient processes.

“The needs of our largest employer customers are evolving along with the healthcare environment. We need to stay ahead of these changes and provide the best support and service in the market,” said Allison Young, senior vice president of benefits administration for BCBSLA. “Our customers are looking for strong and scalable data integration solutions and Benefitfocus provides a trusted Platform and proven technology that will help us better serve our customers and their employees by simplifying how they manage and interact with their benefits.”

The Benefitfocus Platform’s Many-to-One data exchange model consolidates multiple files from employers into one uniform file format, providing a more efficient process for BCBSLA and its customers. Data integrity is ensured through validation, business rule enforcement and accurate, auditable transactions. The Platform can handle a variety of complex requirements and high transition volumes.

“The opportunity to serve the largest health carrier in Louisiana is exciting for all of us at Benefitfocus,” shared Benefitfocus President and CEO Shawn Jenkins. “We’re passionate about designing and engineering transformative healthcare technology. This partnership tells us we’re doing the right things. Our solutions address the challenges in today’s healthcare environment and provide a better experience for our customers.”

BCBSLA selected Benefitfocus due to its extensive experience in accommodating the diverse requirements of healthcare systems, delivering massive transaction volumes and rapid deployment of software throughout the enterprise.
