Benefitfocus Communication Tools for Open Enrollment

During the last Open Enrollment season, Benefitfocus processed more than 20 million enrollment transactions. That’s an enormous number! We have seen open enrollment strategies carried out by employers of various size, industry, and complexity. Right now employer groups with a 1/1/2015 benefit effective date are in a critical phase of their benefits life cycle - Planning and Communicating OE.

HR teams are tasked with effectively communicating in a clear, concise manner. And with so many new benefit acronyms and healthcare headlines in the news, we expect this Open Enrollment season to be filled with employee questions.

This past week Benefitfocus hosted “Features to WOW this OE!” The free webinar invited clients to learn more about the multimedia communication options offered to them through the Benefitfocus Marketplace. Rachel Colonna hosted the webinar and shared “many employers are taking advantage of the dynamic Benefitfocus Marketplace platform, but with so many new enhancements rolling out each Release it’s our job to remind our clients of the user-friendly communication features. A few things we focused on included use of text message, guided decision support tools, a virtual assistant, mobile app and custom Open Enrollment videos.”

Below is an overview of other features discussed:

  • The Benefitfocus virtual assistant guides users toward the most helpful information in the enrollment workflow. The virtual assistant is contextually placed at key decision points to ensure users have the details they need when making the best election for their family coverage.

  • Event Driven Notifications allow employers to reach out to their employees using a secure message center. The message is delivered per the employees’ preferred method; personal email, work email or text message. HR Administrators can create a message in advance and the Benefitfocus Marketplace will automatically deliver the message based on the selected settings. This a great feature to remind employees to complete their enrollment when only a few days are remaining.

  • The Benefitfocus App is supported on the Android & IOS platform. New for 2014, employees can now upload to the Document Center. Employees can easily submit dependent verification documents and review all of their benefits in their pocket.

Large employers today are talking to a blended workforce of Baby Boomers and Millennials. Communication efforts and education must be wide spread across all generations if we expect our employees to become savvy healthcare consumers. More than 100 participants dialed in and learned how they can leverage the platform features to reach their whole workforce for this year’s Open Enrollment season.
