Alpana is Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Benefitfocus. She joined the team in April 2017 bringing a renewed focus on accelerating growth for our health plan business. Leveraging her experience, she quickly saw an opportunity to provide financial leadership to the organization by moving into the VP, Corporate Controller role at the end of 2017. Appointed CFO in 2020, extending her role beyond typical bean counting, she uses her operational background to partner with our business leaders to influence smarter decision making and execution of key strategic initiatives. With more than 20 years of experience, she is a catalyst for driving operational and strategic improvements, constantly working on tangible ways to create better value for our stakeholders: customers, shareholders and associates alike.
Roles & Responsibilities
Alpana oversees our holistic financial organization, leading strategic direction for our FP&A, corporate finance, controller, investor relations, operational excellence, legal and information technology arms. She mentors and cultivates this team of super talented people by bringing curiosity to drive constructive change. She’s armed with data to give actionable insights and she effectively communicates our strategy and progress against it to all stakeholders.
Street Cred
Alpana received her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Arizona State University and holds the CPA designation. Before joining Benefitfocus, Alpana was at Blackbaud and held progressive leadership roles from 2008 to 2017. She was Director of SEC Reporting, VP and CFO Enterprise Customer Business Unit and VP of Sales Operations. She has more than 20 years of experience in finance leadership roles and has spent more than half of her career in the software industry. Previous to her time at Blackbaud, Alpana served as Director of External Reporting and Compliance at Allied Waste Industries.
Hobbies & Interests
When she isn’t on the sidelines watching her boys play soccer, you can find her enjoying the beautiful Charleston waters. She enjoys traveling to new places, discovering new local foodie spots and experiencing live music, whether that be rock, soul, country, pop….as long as it live she is up for it!

Her two sons. Her drive to be a strong role model for them is what gets her up every morning, striving to be a better person than she was yesterday.
