Tim Sand

EVP, Customer Operations

A seasoned industry-leader, Tim Sand brings 30-plus years benefits outsourcing and operational experience to the Benefitfocus team. As the Executive Vice President (EVP) of Customer Operations, Tim is passionate about ensuring our customers receive excellent service throughout their journey. Tim is currently responsible for all activities that support clients including implementations, ongoing client management, contact center, data exchanges, and administrative services.  

Roles & Responsibilities

Tim’s deep industry experience includes leading teams to implement more than 2,000 customers over the course of his career.   Tim’s background in benefits outsourcing, global operations and technology make him the ideal leader of our client delivery. Additionally, Tim partners closely with our product and engineering teams to drive best-in-class customer experiences.

Street Cred

Prior to joining the Benefitfocus team in 2021, Tim served as Chief Operating Officer at ConnectYourCare (now part of Optum Financial), and was responsible for all company operations, including client services, account management, implementation, claims processing, COBRA administration, and the contact center. Tim began his career at Accenture in Chicago and has held senior positions at Aon Hewitt and Towers Watson.

Hobbies & Interests

Tim’s drive to excel carries over to outside the office as well. He has competed in more than 50 endurance races over the years, up to the full Ironman distance! Tim cherishes his time with his wife Susan and their two children. He loves to travel with his family and experience different cultures. His favorite part of visiting someplace new is finding the non-tourist pockets and getting to know the locals.  An alumnus of Ohio State, Tim received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and was a member of Alpha Pi Mu, the Industrial Engineering Honor Society.
