Company Background

With a large, field-based workforce of more than 5,000 employees, this employer places a strong emphasis on making benefits accessible, relevant, and easy to use – no matter where employees are located.

The Challenge: Driving Meaningful, Sustained Engagement

The company worked with us to help increase employee participation in preventive health behaviors across its workforce. Like many employers, they recognized that simply offering preventive care benefits was not enough to drive consistent participation and long-term healthy habits. They faced several interrelated challenges:

  • Field-based workforce: A dispersed employee population—many working in the field—required engagement tactics that could scale beyond a central office.
  • Low overall engagement in health actions: Only about 8% of their employees were participating in the health actions the company was promoting to increase overall wellness. They set a goal of increasing this participation to 12%.
  • Lack of sustained preventive behavior: The program needed to move employees from one-time participation to repeat actions—such as screenings and wellness exams—with a goal of making healthy habits routine.
  • Lack of mobile adoption: Increasing mobile app usage was critical to engaging their field-based workforce with the incentives experience and keeping them engaged over time.
  • Lack of incentives performance data: the client wanted clearer insight into what was working to engage employees, what to emphasize next, and where to refine the experience based on participation patterns.

The Solution: Incentives Dashboard

The company implemented the Incentives Dashboard to define, incentivize, and manage eligible health actions in one central, mobile-friendly experience tailored to their field-based workface. Employees had the opportunity to earn cash rewards and sweepstakes entries aligned with priority wellness behaviors like preventive screenings, annual wellness visits, vaccinations, and selection of a primary care provider. Importantly, the program allowed the employer to track participation trends to see what was working and where there were opportunities to refine for increased engagement.

Results: Measurable Engagement Gains

By using the Incentives Dashboard to design, launch, and continuously optimize rewardable “Health Actions,” the company has seen increased employee engagement since it was introduced in September 2024 with a clear shift from one-and-done participation to the deeper, repeated action-taking goal that supports potential to improve overall employee health. Increased year-round exposure to benefits offered can be a key factor in employee retention and overall benefits utilization, reinforcing the value of the employer's investment while supporting employee wellbeing.

  • Engagement goal surpassed: Within the first four months of implementing the program, employee engagement surpassed their target of 12% with 20.9%1 of employees engaged. This rate has now grown to 33.8%2 overall engagement in the program.
  • Repeat participation: Active members have completed an average of 11 actions per user since the program launched in September 2024, demonstrating sustained behavior beyond one-time participation.
  • Stronger ongoing benefits platform usage: Since the incentives program is integrated within the Benefitplace app, usage increased 71% pre- vs. post-launch.3
  • Mobile growth supported sustained participation: unique mobile app users increased 59%4 and sessions increased 130% from 8/1/2024 – 7/31/2025.

Together, these results demonstrate how targeted incentives paired with actionable insights, can help drive sustained employee engagement and set the stage for long-term health impact.
