VP & Chief Information Security Officer

As the Chief Information Security Officer at Benefitfocus, Dan oversees the company’s security vision and enforcement. He joined us in January 2018 and has been continually motivated by our people, our customers and our culture. Dan brings more than 20 years of experience as a cybersecurity leader for large and mid-sized global firms with complex portfolios. He has a passion for helping others and for tackling new challenges, he finds that working in cybersecurity is very rewarding and allows him to accomplish both daily. 

Role & Responsibilities

When he’s not holding on for dear life riding Space Mountain at Disney, he’s leading a team of security professionals accountable for cybersecurity, security risk management, information protection, security testing and monitoring, incident response and investigations, regulatory compliance (PCI-DSS, SOC 1 & 2, HIPAA, HITRUST), third party assurance, business continuity and disaster recovery! He keeps busy. He is committed to honing the skills of our teams to continue to deliver innovative solutions that help reduce security risk to our customers and our organization.  

Street Cred

Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in finance and marketing from Boston College. Prior to joining Benefitfocus, Dan served as Chief Information Security Officer of the Talent Management Solutions brand at IBM, and has held various security leadership positions at Kenexa, BrassRing, and EDS. He maintains CISSP, ISSMP, and CISA certifications. 

Hobbies & Interests

Dan enjoys spending time with his family. He’s an avid Boston sports fan: Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics, Bruins, Revolution… you name it, he’s watching it. When he’s not vacationing at Disney, you can catch him sunning somewhere on a beach listening to U2 on repeat. 

Inspiration

Dan’s biggest source of inspiration comes from his parents, who instilled a core set of values and a strong belief system in their son. He thanks his mother and father for his mantra of, “Treat others as you would want to be treated.”
