Tom is Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Benefitfocus. He joined in February 2024 and has deep industry experience in the benefits administration and retirement spaces. He is a results-driven leader with a keen eye for developing talent and advancing benefits outsourcing strategies. Tom is aligned to our mission of improving lives with benefits. With the ever-shifting landscape of health care in the U.S., he sees tremendous opportunity in how we can help people make great decisions in a complex space. He’s here to help us radically simplify benefits, translating to better outcomes for employers and employees alike.
Responsibilities
Tom oversees the teams that deliver implementation, client management, contact center support, data exchanges and administrative services for our clients. He will closely collaborate with our product and engineering teams to further grow the success of our full-service customer success organization.
Street Cred
Tom has worked his way up through the ranks, taking on assignments and roles in health, retirement, call centers, human resources (HR) outsourcing, payroll, implementation, operations, client management, product and deal teams… you name it, he’s mastered it! But in all seriousness, Tom does not back down from a challenge. He has worked the last 25 years excelling through challenges across the benefits and broader HR outsourcing industry. The tougher the assignment, the more he enjoys it!
Tom holds a bachelor's degree in business administration from Marquette University and a master’s degree in business administration from the JL Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
Hobbies & Interests
Tom loves all things outdoors – skiing, golf, paddle tennis, hiking, water sports. His love for a good challenge doesn’t stop with work. He’s always looking to master the outdoors when he can. You can catch him grilling up some good eats after a long day outdoors. He’s a self-proclaimed fledgling pitmaster. We gotta get our hands on some of his famous ribs!
