Benefitfocus supports the following browsers:

We support the latest version of Google Chrome (which automatically updates whenever it detects that a new version of the browser is available). We support the current and previous major releases of Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari on a rolling basis. Each time those vendors releases a new browser version, we begin supporting that version and stop supporting the third most recent version.

At Benefitfocus, we’re committed to developing web applications that go beyond the limits of traditional software. Our engineering teams make use of new capabilities available in modern, up-to-date browsers. That’s why we have made the decision to support only modern browsers, which also provide improved security and performance.

Virtual environments like Citrix® and VMware® may not fully support all of the functionality in the Benefitfocus Platform for all types of configurations. For the best experience, use the browsers on your local computer.

Browser Settings
All browsers must have cookies and JavaScript enabled to use the Benefitfocus Platform.
Internet Explorer 7 & 8 users
Internet Explorer 7 is no longer supported.

Internet Explorer 8 is no longer supported; click here for more information.

Organizations who depend on old versions of Internet Explorer need to upgrade or deploy a dual browser strategy.

Notes around Chrome, Safari, and unsupported Browsers
Google Chrome and Apple Safari (Mac OSX only) should be 100% supported on any customer/employee facing application within the Benefitfocus platform. There are a few administrative applications that do not function properly with Chrome or Safari; however, we are actively working to resolve any remaining issues.

Users with unsupported browsers may find that some features do not function, or the application does not load.

Fix Internet Explorer Compatibility View issues
Internet Explorer has a Compatibility View (or mode) that affects how some websites are displayed. The Benefitfocus platform may display incorrectly if Compatibility View is enabled for the following domains:

We suggest that you remove the following domains from your list of sites that have Compatibility View enabled.

  • *.hrintouch.com
  • *.secure-enroll.com
  • *.shopapply.com
  • *.eenrollment.com
  • *.benefitfocus.com
How to remove Benefitfocus domains from Compatibility View
Internet Explorer versions 9, 10, and 11
  1. In Internet Explorer, press the Alt key to display the Menu bar, or press and hold the address bar and select Menu bar.
  2. Click Tools and select Compatibility View settings.
  3. Under "Websites you've added to Compatibility View" locate and select any of the Benefitfocus Platform Domains (listed above).
  4. Click Remove.

Internet Explorer 8

  1. In Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu at the top and select Compatibility View Settings.
  2. Under "Websites you've added to Compatibility View" locate and select any of the Benefitfocus Platform Domains (listed above).
  3. Click Remove.
More troubleshooting steps
If you don't see one of our above domains listed following the steps above, make sure that your computer has the latest Windows updates. See Microsoft’s instructions for getting Window’s updates.

However, if you don't want to install the latest Windows updates, here's what you can do about the Compatibility View rendering issues:

  1. In Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu at the top and select Compatibility View Settings. You may need to press the Alt key or press and hold the address bar to see the Menu bar.
  2. Make sure that any of the Benefitfocus Platform Domains (listed above) are NOT in the list called "Websites you've added to Compatibility View." If they are listed, they need to be removed.
  3. At the bottom of the window, make sure that that all checkboxes are NOT checked. Note: the following checkbox labels will display depending on your version of Internet Explorer:
    1. Display all websites in Compatibility View
    2. Download updated compatibility lists from Microsoft
    3. Include updated website lists from Microsoft
    4. Display intranet sites in Compatibility View
    5. Use Microsoft compatibility lists
  4. Click Close.

Note: If your Windows computer is administered by your organization, you may not be able to access Compatibility View settings or remove one of the domains (listed above) from the list. Contact your organization’s administrator or helpdesk for help.
